षोडश पर्व
क्ररेऽपि मयि सामीप्यादियन्तं समयं तया । आत्मा संधारितो नित्यं प्रवृत्तनयनाम्भसा ॥१३५॥ आगच्छता मया दृष्टा तस्याश्चेष्टाधुना तु या। तया जानामि सा नूनं न प्राणिति वियोगिनी ॥१३६॥ तस्या विनापराधेन मया परिभवः कृतः । द्वयग्रं विंशतिमब्दानां पाषाणसमचेतसा ॥१३७॥ आगच्छता मया दृष्टं तस्यास्तन्मुखपङ्कजम् । शोकपालेयसंपर्कान्मुक्तं लावण्यसंपदा ॥१३८॥ तस्यास्ते नयने दीधै नीलोत्पलसमप्रभे । इषुवत्स्मृतिमारूढे हृदयं विध्यतेऽधुना ॥१३९॥ तदुपायं कुरु त्वं तमावयोयन संगमः । जायेत मरणं माभूदुभयोरपि सज्जन ॥१४॥ ऊचे प्रहसितोऽथैवं क्षणं निश्चलविग्रहः । उपायचिन्तनात्यन्तचलदोलास्थमानसः ॥१४१॥ कृत्वा गुरुजनापृच्छा निर्गतस्य तवाधुना। शत्रु निर्जेतुकामस्य सांप्रतं न निवर्तनम् ॥१४२॥ समक्षं गुरुलोकस्य नानीता प्रथमं च या । लज्यते तामिहानेतुमधुनाञ्जनसुन्दरीम् ॥१४३॥ तस्मादविदितो गत्वा तत्रैवेतां त्वमानय । नेत्रयोर्गोचरीभावं संभाषणसुखस्य च ॥१४४॥ जीवितालम्बनं कृत्वा चिरात्तस्याः समागमम् । ततः क्षिप्रं निवर्तस्व शीतलीभूतमानसः ॥१४५॥ निरपेक्षस्ततो भूत्वा वहन्नुत्साहमुत्तमम् । गमिष्यसि रिपुं जेतुमुपायोऽयं सुनिश्चितः ॥१४६॥ ततः परममित्युक्त्वा सेनान्यं मुद्गराभिधम् । नियुज्य बलरक्षायां व्याजतो मेरुवन्दनात् ॥१४७॥ माल्यानुलेपनादीनि गृहीत्वा त्वरयान्वितः । पुरः प्रहसितं कृत्वा वायुर्गगनमुद्ययौ ॥१४८॥ तावच्च भानुरैदस्तं कृपयेव प्रचोदितः । विश्रब्धमेतयोर्योगो निशीथे जायतामिति ॥१४९॥
किया इसलिए मेरा मन दुखी हो रहा है ।।१३४॥ यद्यपि मैं क्रूर हूँ और क्रूरतावश उससे बोलताचालता नहीं था तो भी मात्र समीपमें रहने के कारण उसने निरन्तर आँस डाल-डालकर अपने आपको जीवित रखा है ।।१३५।। परन्तु उस दिन आते समय मैंने उसकी जो चेष्टा देखी थी उससे जानता हूँ कि वह वियोगिनी अब जीवित नहीं रहेगी ॥१३६।। मुझ पाषाणचित्तने अपराधके बिना ही उसका बाईस वर्ष तक अनादर किया है ।।१३७।। आते समय मैंने उसका वह मुख देखा था जो कि शोकरूपी तुषारसे सम्पर्क होनेके कारण सौन्दर्यरूपी सम्पदासे रहित था ॥१३८।। उसके जब नीलोत्पलके समान नीले एवं दीर्घ नेत्र स्मृतिमें आते हैं तो बाणकी तरह हृदय बिंध जाता है ॥१३९।। इसलिए हे सज्जन ! ऐसा उपाय करो कि जिससे हम दोनोंका समागम हो जाये और मरण न हो सके ॥१४०॥
अथानन्तर क्षण-भरके लिए जिसका शरीर तो निश्चल था और मन उपायकी चिन्तनामें मानो अत्यन्त चंचल झूलापर ही स्थित था ऐसा प्रहसित बोला कि ।।१४१।। चूँकि तुम गुरुजनोंसे पूछकर निकले हो और शत्रुको जीतना चाहते हो इसलिए इस समय तुम्हारा लौटना उचित नहीं है ।।१४२।। इसके सिवाय गुरुजनोंके समक्ष तुम कभी अंजनाको अपने पास नहीं लाये हो इसलिए इस समय उसका यहाँ लाना भी लज्जाकी बात है ॥१४३।। अतः अच्छा उपाय यही है कि तुम गुप्त रूपसे वहीं जाकर उसे अपने दर्शन तथा सम्भाषणजन्य सुखका पात्र बनाओ ॥१४४॥ तुम्हारा समागम उसके जीवनका आलम्बन है सो उसे चिरकाल तक प्राप्त कराकर तथा अपने मनको ठण्डा कर शीघ्र ही वहाँसे वापस लौट आना ॥१४५।। और इस तरह तुम उस ओरसे निश्चिन्त हो उत्तम उत्साहको धारण करते हुए शत्रुको जीतनेके लिए जा सकोगे ॥१४६॥
तदनन्तर 'बहुत ठीक है' ऐसा कहकर शीघ्रतासे भरा पवनंजय, मुद्गर नामक सेनापतिको सेनाकी रक्षामें नियुक्त कर माला, अनुलेपन आदि अन्य सुगन्धित पदार्थ लेकर और प्रहसित मित्रको आगे कर मेरुवन्दनाके बहाने आकाशमें जा उड़ा ॥१४७-१४८॥ इतने में ही सूर्य अस्त

Therefore, it is best that you go secretly and make her worthy of your sight and the pleasure of conversation. ||144||

Your meeting is the support of her life, so grant her this for a long time, and then return quickly, having calmed your mind. ||145||

Then, being free from worry and carrying the best enthusiasm, you will be able to go and conquer the enemy. This is a sure way. ||146||

Then, saying "Very well," the swift Pavananjay, appointed Mudgara, the commander, to protect the army, and taking garlands, ointments, and other fragrant substances, he went up into the sky, taking the smiling friend with him, under the pretext of worshipping Meru. ||147-148||

Meanwhile, the sun was setting, as if urged by compassion, so that the union of these two might take place in the night. ||149||
