द्वादशं पर्व
तुरङ्गश्चञ्चलच्चारुचामरालीविभूषितैः । नृत्यद्भिरिव विस्रब्धकृतविभ्रमहारिभिः ॥३५९॥ महानिनदसंघः प्रवृत्तमदनिर्झरैः । गर्जद्भिर्मधुरं नागैः षट्पदालोनिषेवितैः ॥३६०॥ 'अनुयानसमारूढमहासाधनखेचरैः । उपकण्ठं क्षणात्प्राप लेङ्काया राक्षसाधिपः ॥३६१॥ ततो दृष्ट्वा समासन्नं गृहीता; विनिर्ययुः । पुरस्य पालकाः पौरा बान्धवाश्च समुत्सुकाः ॥३६२॥ कृतपूजस्ततः कैश्चित्केषांचित्कृतपूजनः । नम्यमानोऽपरैः कांश्चित्प्रणमन्मदवर्जितः ॥३६३॥ दृष्ट्या संमानयन कांश्चिस्निग्धया नतवत्सलः । स्मितेन कांश्चिद्वाचान्यान्परिज्ञातजनान्तरः ॥३६४॥ *मनोहरा निसर्गेण विशेषेण विभूषिताम् । समुच्छ्रितसमुत्तुङ्गरत्ननिर्मिततोरणाम् ॥३६५॥ मन्दानिलविधूतान्तबहवर्णध्वजाकुलाम् । कुङ्कमादिमनोज्ञाम्बुसिक्कनिःशेषभूतलाम् ॥३६६॥ सर्वर्तुकुसुमव्याप्तराजमार्गविराजिताम् । अनेकमक्तिमिः पञ्चवणेचूर्णैरलंकृताम् ॥३६७॥ द्वारदेशसुविन्यस्तपूर्णकुम्मा महाद्युतिम् । सरसैः पल्लवैद्धमाला वस्त्रविभूषिताम् ॥३६८॥ वृत्तौ विद्याधरैर्देवैर्यथेन्द्रोऽत्यन्तभूरिमिः । सुखमासादयन् प्राज्यं पूर्वोपार्जितकर्मणा ॥३६९॥
आरूढः परमेकान्ते पुष्पके कामगामिनि । स्फुरन्मौलिमहारत्रकेयूरधरसद्भुजः ॥३७०॥ साथ थे ॥३५८॥ जो हिलते हुए सुन्दर चमरोंके समूहसे सुशोभित थे, निश्चिन्ततासे किये हुए अनेक विलासोंसे मनोहर थे तथा नृत्य करते हुए से जान पड़ते थे ऐसे घोड़े उसकी शोभा बढ़ा रहे थे ॥३५९॥ जिनके गलेमें विशाल शब्द करनेवाले घण्टा बँधे हुए थे, जिनसे मदके निर्झरने झर रहे थे, जो मधुर गर्जना कर रहे थे तथा भ्रमरोंकी पंक्ति जिनकी उपासना कर रही थी ऐसे हाथी उसके साथ थे ॥३६०॥ इनके सिवाय अपनी-अपनी सवारियोंपर बैठे हुए बड़ी-बड़ी सेनाओंके अधिपति विद्याधर उसके साथ चल रहे थे। इन सबके साथ रावण क्षण-भरमें ही लंकाके समीप जा पहुँचा ॥३६१॥ तब रावणको निकट आया जान नगरकी रक्षा करनेवाले लोग पुरवासी और भाईबान्धव उत्सुक हो अर्घ ले-लेकर बाहर निकले ॥३६२॥ तदनन्तर कितने ही लोगोंने रावणकी पूजा की तथा रावणने भी कितने ही वृद्धजनोंकी पूजा की। कितने ही लोगोंने रावणको नमस्कार किया और रावणने भी कितने ही वद्धजनोंको मदरहित हो नमस्कार किया ॥३६३॥ लोगोंकी विशेषताको जाननेवाला तथा नम्र मनष्योंसे स्नेह रखनेवाला रावण कितने ही मनुष्योंको स्नेहपूर्ण दष्टिसे सम्मानित करता था। कितने ही लोगोंको मन्द मुसकानसे और कितने ही लोगोंको मनोहर वचनोंसे समादृत कर रहा था ॥३६४||
___ तदनन्तर जो स्वभावसे ही सुन्दर थी तथा उस समय विशेषकर सजायी गयी थी, जिसमें रत्ननिर्मित बड़े ऊंचे-ऊँचे तोरण खड़े किये गये थे ॥३६५॥ जो मन्द-मन्द वायुसे हिलती हुई रंगबिरंगी ध्वजाओंसे युक्त थी, केशर आदि मनोज्ञ वस्तुओंसे मिश्रित जलसे जहाँकी समस्त पृथिवी सोंची गयी थी ॥३६६।। जो सब ऋतुओंके फूलोंसे व्याप्त राजमार्गोंसे सुशोभित थी, काले, पीले, नीले, लाल, हरे आदि पंचवर्णीय चूर्णसे निर्मित अनेक वेल-बूटोंसे जो अलंकृत थी ॥३६७।। जिसके दरवाजोंपर पूर्ण कलश रखे गये थे, जो महाकान्तिसे युक्त थी, सरस पल्लवोंकी जिसमें वन्दनमालाएं बांधी गयी थीं, जो उत्तमोत्तम वस्त्रोंसे विभूषित थी तथा जहाँ बहुत भारी उत्सव हो रहा था ऐसी लंकानगरीमें रावणने प्रवेश किया ॥३६८॥ जिस प्रकार अनेक देवोंसे इन्द्र घिरा होता है उसी प्रकार रावण भी अनेक विद्याधरोंसे घिरा था। उस समय वह अपने पूर्वोपार्जित पुण्य कर्मके प्रभावसे उत्तम सुखको प्राप्त हो रहा था ॥३६९|| अत्यन्त सुन्दर तथा इच्छानुकूल गमन करने१. अनुयातः समारूढः म. । २. लङ्कायां म. । ३. कृतपूजनस्ततः म. । ४. मनोहरान् ख., ब. । ५. विशेषणम. । ६. विभूषितान् ब., ख. ।

Horses adorned with beautiful, fluttering fly whisks, moving with carefree grace, as if dancing, enhanced his splendor. ||359|| A multitude of elephants, their necks adorned with large, resonant bells, from which flowed streams of intoxicating nectar, their trumpets resonating with a sweet sound, followed by a swarm of bees, accompanied him. ||360|| Along with these, the lords of great armies, mounted on their respective steeds, the celestial beings, the Vidyadharas, followed him. It was in this city of Lanka that Ravana entered. ||368|| Just as Indra is surrounded by many gods, so too was Ravana surrounded by many Vidyadharas.
