हरिवंशपुराणे सुपृष्टमुत्सृष्टमुदात्तशब्दकैनवं पुराणं च पुराणवारि सत् । महाभ्रकूलैर्जनतासरित्कुलैश्चतुःसमुद्रान्तमिदं प्रतन्यते ॥४९॥ जयन्ति देवाः सुरसंघसेविताः प्रजातिशान्तिप्रदशान्तशासनाः । विशुद्धकैवल्यविनिद्रदृष्टयो सुदृष्टतत्त्वा भुवने जिनेश्वराः ॥५०॥ जयत्वजय्या जिनधर्मसंततिः प्रजास्विह क्षेमसुमिक्षमस्त्विह । सुखाय भूयात्प्रतिवर्षवर्षणैः सुजातसस्या वसुधासुधारिणाम् ॥५१॥
शार्दूलविक्रीडितम् शाकेष्वब्दशतेषु सप्तसु दिशं पञ्चोत्तरेषूत्तरां
पातीन्द्रायुधनाम्नि कृष्णनृपजे श्रीवल्लभे दक्षिणाम् । पूर्वा श्रीमदवन्तिभूभृति नृपे वस्सादिराजेऽपरां
सूर्याणामधिमण्डलं जययुते वीरे वराहेऽवति ॥५२।। कल्याणः परिवर्धमानविपुल श्रीवर्धमाने पुरे
__ श्रीपालियनन्नराजवसतो पर्याप्तशेषः पुरा । पश्चादोस्तटिकाप्रजाप्रजनितप्राज्यार्चनावर्चने
शान्तेः शान्तगृहे जिनस्य रचितो वंशो हरीणामयम् ॥५॥
धारण कर पृथिवीपर फैला देते हैं उसी प्रकार संसारका भार धारण करनेमें समर्थ विज्ञपुरुष स्वभावसे ही इस पूराणको पथिवीतलपर फैला देंगे ||४८|| जो उत्तम शब्दोंसे युक्त (पक्षमें उत्तम गर्जना करनेवाले ) महाविद्वानरूपी मेघोंसे रचित है, जिसके विषयमें खूब प्रश्नोत्तर हुए हैं तथा जो नूतन होकर भी पुराणरूप है ऐसा यह पुराणरूपी जल जनसमूहरूपी नदियोंके समूहसे चारों समुद्रों पर्यन्त विस्तृत किया जाता है। भावार्थ-जिस प्रकार मेघोंसे बरसाये हुए पानीको नदियां समुद्र तक फैला देती हैं उसी प्रकार विद्वानों द्वारा रचित पुराणको जनता परस्परकी चर्चा-वार्तासे दूर-दूर तक फैला देती है ॥४९॥
___ जो देवोंके समूहसे सेवित हैं, जिनका शान्त शासन प्रजाके लिए अत्यन्त शान्ति प्रदान करनेवाला है, जिनको केवलज्ञानरूपी दृष्टि सदा विकसित रहती है और जिन्होंने समस्त तत्त्वोंको अच्छी तरह देख लिया है ऐसे जिनेन्द्र भगवान् सदा जयवन्त रहें ॥५०॥ वादियोंसे सर्वथा अजेय जिनधर्मकी परम्परा सदा जयवन्त रहे, प्रजाओंमें क्षेम और सुभिक्षको वृद्धि हो तथा प्रतिवर्ष अनुकूल वर्षाके कारण उत्तम धान्यसे सुशोभित यह पृथिवी प्राणियोंके सुखके लिए हो ॥ ५१ ॥
___सात-सौ पांच शक संवत्में, जब कि उत्तर दिशाका इन्द्रायुध, दक्षिणका कृष्णराजका पुत्र श्रीवल्लभ, पूर्व दिशाका श्रीमान् अवन्तिराज और पश्चिमका सौर्योंके अधिमण्डल-सौराष्ट्रका वीर जयवराह पालन करता था तब कल्याणोंसे निरन्तर बढ़नेवाली लक्ष्मीसे युक्त श्री 'वर्धमानपुर' में नन्नराजा द्वारा निर्मापित श्रीपार्श्वनाथके मन्दिर में पहले इस हरिवंशपुराणकी रचना प्रारम्भ की गयी थी परन्तु वहाँ इसकी रचना पूर्ण नहीं हो सकी। पर्याप्त भाग शेष बच रहा तब पीछे 'दोस्तटिका' नगरीकी प्रजाके द्वारा रचित उत्कृष्ट अर्चना और पूजा-स्तुतिसे युक्त वहां

In the year seven hundred and five of the Saka era, when Indraayudha ruled the north, Srivallabha, the son of Krishna Raja, ruled the south, the glorious Avanti Raja ruled the east, and the valiant Jayavaraha, the lord of the solar orb, ruled the west, the composition of this Harivamsha Purana was begun in the temple of Sri Parshvanatha, built by King Nanna Raja in the city of Sri Vardhamanapura, which was constantly growing in prosperity. However, the composition was not completed there. A significant portion remained unfinished. Later, in the city of Dostatika, the people, through their excellent worship and praise, completed the lineage of the Haris, the Jain Tirthankaras, in the peaceful abode of peace. ||52||
