त्रिषष्टितमः सर्गः
बह्वभिग्रहपरिग्रहोज्ज्वलजाठराग्निजठरोपरोधत: ।
मोक्षसाधन तयार्धमुग्व्यधात्त्परीषहजयं महामुनिः ॥ १२ ॥ 'देहगिर्यवयवाट वीप्लुषा दावमूर्तिनिभया पिपासया । निष्प्रतिक्रियधृतिर्न विव्यधे क्षान्तिनोरदघटाभिषिक्तया ॥ २३ ॥ स्थण्डिले निशि दिवा च योगिना तीव्रवातहिमवृष्टय नेहसि । वातवर्षविषमे तरोरधोऽयोधि शीतपुरुषः परीषहः ॥ ९४ ॥ पर्वताग्रशिखरस्थितोऽजयद् प्रैष्ममुष्णमभितः परोषहम् । दावधूमवलयातपत्रै सच्छाययेव विनिवारितातपः ॥ ९५॥ गूढवृत्तिभिरनास्थिजन्तुभिर्गाढपीतरुधिरोऽप्यकम्पितः । सोढवान् दृढमसौ परीषहं प्रौढदंशमशकोपलक्षितम् ॥ ९६ ॥ सोऽङ्गलग्नमनपायमध्य विश्वास्य मेकदिनदुःखपालनम् । सत्कलत्रमिव सत्रपं न्यधान्नाग्रन्यमात्मवशगं परीषहम् ॥ ९७ ॥ ध्यानयोग्य गिरिमार्ग दुर्गंभुव्येक एव हि विहृत्य निग्रहे । धर्मसाधन रतिर्यथा रिपोर्व्यापृतों रतिपरीषहस्य सः ॥ ९८ ॥ भ्रूलताकुटिलचा पयोजित स्त्री कटाक्षशरवर्षिणं वृथा । कुर्वता मदनयोधमूर्जितस्त्रीपरीषहजयः कृतोऽमुना ॥ ९९ ॥
नाना प्रकार के नियम - आखड़ी आदिके लेनेसे उनकी जठराग्नि अत्यधिक प्रज्वलित रहती थी । उतनेपर भी वे मोक्षकी सिद्धिके लिए भूखसे आधा ही भोजन करते थे । इस प्रकार वे महामुनि क्षुधापरीषहको जीतते थे ||१२|| प्रतिकाररहित धैर्यके धारक बलदेव मुनिराज, शान्तिरूपी घनघटासे अभिषिक्त होनेके कारण शरीररूपी पर्वतके अवयवभूत अटवीको जलानेवाली दावानलके समान तीव्र प्याससे पीड़ित नहीं होते थे....इस प्रकार वे तृषापरीषहपर विजय प्राप्त करते थे ॥९३॥ तीव्र वायु और हिमवर्षाके समय रात-दिन खुले चबूतरेपर बैठकर तथा वायु और वर्षा से विषम वर्षा ऋतुमें वृक्षके नीचे बैठकर वे कठोर शीत परीषद् के साथ युद्ध करते थे ||९४ || ग्रीष्म ऋतुमें पर्वतके ऊंचे शिखरपर स्थित होकर वे चारों ओरसे उष्ण परीषह सहन करते थे। उस समय उनके ऊपर दावानलका धुआं छा जाता था, उससे ऐसा जान पड़ता था मानो वे छतरीकी छायासे गरमीकी बाधाको ही दूर कर रहे हों ||१५|| चुपके-चुपके आनेवाले हड्डीरहित जन्तुओं - डाँस, मच्छरोंसे उनका रुधिर खूब पिया गया फिर भी वे निश्चल रहते थे । इस प्रकार उन्होंने दंश, मशक नामक कठिन परीषहको बड़ी दृढ़ता से सहन किया था ||९६ || जो शरीर में संलग्न था, अपायरहित होनेपर भी विश्वासके योग्य नहीं था, जिसका एक दिन भी पालन करना कठिन था एवं जो उत्तम स्त्रीके समान लज्जासे सहित था, ऐसे नाग्न्यपरीषहको वे अपनी इच्छानुसार सहन करते थे ||१७|| वे ध्यानके योग्य पहाड़ी मार्ग एवं वनकी दुर्गंम भूमियों में अकेले ही विहार कर सदा धर्मसाधन में प्रीति रखते थे और शत्रुकी तरह रतिपरीषह के निग्रह करने में संलग्न रहते थे ||१८|| भ्रुकुटि लतारूपी कुटिल धनुषपर चढ़ाये हुए स्त्रियोंके कटाक्षरूपी बाणोंकी वर्षा करनेवाले कामदेवरूपी योधाको व्यर्थ करनेवाले उन मुनिराजने अतिशय बलवान् स्त्री - परीषहको जीता था || ९९||

**12.** Due to the consumption of coarse food like gruel, etc., their gastric fire was intensely burning. Even then, for the sake of attaining liberation, they would eat only half their fill. Thus, they conquered the **Kshudha-parishaha** (hunger).

**23.** The great sage, Baldev Muni, the holder of unwavering fortitude, was not afflicted by the intense thirst, like a blazing fire consuming the forest, which was a part of the body-mountain, because he was anointed by the cloud of peace. Thus, he conquered the **Trisha-parishaha** (thirst).

**94.** Day and night, they sat on a platform, enduring the intense wind and snow. During the stormy rainy season, they sat under a tree, battling the harsh cold. Thus, they conquered the **Sheeta-parishaha** (cold).

**95.** Standing on the peak of a mountain, they endured the scorching heat from all sides. The smoke of the blazing fire enveloped them, making it seem as if they were warding off the heat with the shade of an umbrella. Thus, they conquered the **Ushna-parishaha** (heat).

**96.** They remained unmoved even when their blood was profusely sucked by the boneless creatures like leeches and mosquitoes, which came stealthily. Thus, they endured the severe **Dansha-Mshaka-parishaha** (bite and mosquito).

**97.** They endured the **Nagnya-parishaha** (nakedness), which was attached to the body, devoid of any attachment, not worthy of trust, difficult to bear even for a day, and like a virtuous wife, full of modesty. They endured it according to their will.

**98.** They wandered alone in the mountainous paths and the inaccessible forests, suitable for meditation, always devoted to the practice of Dharma, and engaged in conquering the **Rati-parishaha** (lust) like an enemy.

**99.** They conquered the powerful **Stri-parishaha** (women) by rendering futile the efforts of the warrior-like Cupid, who showered arrows of glances from his bow made of the curved eyebrow.
