विशतितमः सर्गः
३०१ धीराः प्रच्छन्नसामर्थ्या 'गाढावष्टब्धमूर्त्तयः । साधवोऽपि कदाचित् स्युर्दाहका ननु चाग्निवत् ॥ ३८ ॥ तेन ते यावदायाति नापायो वल्युपेक्षणम् । नृप ! तावन्निवर्त्तस्व मोपेक्षस्व स्वतोऽन्यतः ॥३९॥ पद्मस्ततो नतः प्राह नाथ ! राज्यं मया वलेः । सप्ताहावधिकं दत्तं नाधिकारोऽधुनात्र मे ||४०॥ त्वमेव भगवन् ! गत्वा शाधि ते कुरुते वचः । वलिर्दाक्षिण्यतोऽक्षूणादित्युक्ते वलिमाप सः ॥४३॥ आह चैनमथो साधो ! किं दिनार्द्धनिमित्तकम् । संवर्द्धनमधर्मस्य कुरुषे कर्म गर्हितम् ॥४२॥ तपःकमैकनिष्ठैस्तैः किमनिष्टमनुष्ठितम् । वरिष्टेन स्वया येषु कनिष्ठेनेव यत्कृतम् ॥४३॥ स्वकर्मबन्धभीरुत्वान्नान्यानिष्टं कदाचन । तपस्विनो विचेष्टन्ते मनोवाक्कायकर्मभिः ॥ ४४ ॥ तदिस्थमुपशान्तेषु न ते युक्तं दुरीहितम् । उपसंहर शान्त्यर्थमुपसर्गं प्रमादजम् ॥४५॥ ततो वलिरुवाचामी यान्ति मे यदि राज्यतः । तदा निरुपसर्गः स्यादन्यथा तदवस्थितिः ॥४६॥ विष्णुरूचे स्वयोगस्था न यान्ति पदमप्यतः । कुर्वन्त्यमी तनुत्यागं न व्यवस्थितिलङ्घनम् ॥४७॥ अनुमन्यस्व मे भूमिं स्थातुं तेषां पदत्रयम् । मातिकर्कशमात्मानं कुर्व याचकयाचितः ॥४८॥ अनुमन्याब्रवीदित्थं तद्द्बहिः परमध्यमी । यद्यतीयुस्ततो दण्ड्या न मे दोषोऽत्र विद्यते ॥४९॥ तदा हि पुरुषो लोके प्रत्यवायेन युज्यते । यदा प्रच्यवते वाक्यात् न तु वाक्यस्य पालकः ॥५०॥
दुःखी किया हुआ साधु विकृत होकर जला ही देता है - शाप आदिसे नष्ट ही कर देता है ||३७|| जो धीर-वीर हैं, जिनकी सामर्थ्यं छिपी हुई है और जिन्होंने अपने शरीरको अच्छी तरह वश कर लिया है ऐसे साधु भी कदाचित् अग्निके समान दाहक हो जाते हैं ||३८|| इसलिए हे राजन् ! जबतक तुम्हारे ऊपर कोई बड़ा अनिष्ट नहीं आता है तबतक तुम वलिके इस कुकृत्यके प्रति की जानेवाली अपनी उपेक्षाको दूर करो। स्वयं अपने तथा आश्रित रहनेवाले अन्य जनोंके प्रति उपेक्षा न करो ||३९||
तदनन्तर राजा पद्मने नम्रीभूत होकर कहा कि हे नाथ! मैंने वलिके लिए सात दिनका राज्य दे रखा है इसलिए इस विषय में मेरा अधिकार नहीं है ||४०|| हे भगवन् ! आप स्वयं ही जाकर उसपर शासन करें। आपके अखण्ड चातुर्यसे वलि अवश्य ही आपकी बात स्वीकृत करेगा । राजा पद्मके ऐसा कहने पर विष्णुकुमार मुनि वलिके पास गये ||४१|| और बोले कि हे भले आदमी ! आधे दिन के लिए अधर्मको बढ़ानेवाला यह निन्दित कार्य क्यों कर रहा है ? ||४२ || अरे ! एक तपरूप कार्यमें ही लीन रहनेवाले उन मुनियोंने तेरा क्या अनिष्ट कर दिया जिससे तूने उच्च होकर भी नीचकी तरह उनपर यह कुकृत्य किया ||४३|| अपने कर्मबन्धसे भीरु होनेके कारण तपस्वी मन, वचन, कायसे कभी दूसरेका अनिष्ट नहीं करते ||४४ || इसलिए इस तरह शान्त मुनियोंके विषय में तुम्हारी यह दुश्चेष्टा उचित नहीं है । यदि शान्ति चाहते हो तो शीघ्र ही इस प्रमादजन्य उपसर्गका संकोच करो || ४५ ॥ तदनन्तर वलिने कहा कि यदि ये मेरे राज्यसे चले जाते हैं तो उपसर्ग दूर हो सकता है अन्यथा उपसर्ग ज्योंका-त्यों बना रहेगा || ४६ || इसके उत्तर में विष्णुकुमार कहा कि ये सब आत्मध्यानमें लीन हैं इसलिए यहाँसे एक डग भी नहीं जा सकते । ये अपने शरीरका त्याग भले ही कर देंगे पर व्यवस्थाका उल्लंघन नहीं कर सकते ||४७ || उन मुनियोंके ठहरनेके लिए मुझे तीन डग भूमि देना स्वीकृत करो। अपने आपको अत्यन्त कठोर मत करो । मैंने कभी किसीसे याचना नहीं की फिर भी इन मुनियोंके ठहरनेके निमित्त तुमसे तीन डग भूमिकी याचना करता हूँ अतः मेरी बात स्वीकृत करो ||४८|| विष्णुकुमार मुनिको बात स्वीकृत करते हुए ao कहा कि यदि ये उस सीमाके बाहर एक डगका भी उल्लंघन करेंगे तो दण्डनीय होंगे इसमें मेरा अपराध नहीं है || ४९ || क्योंकि लोकमें मनुष्य तभी आपत्तिसे युक्त होता है जब वह अपने १. सुगाढा बद्ध - म ।
