એસ્ટ્રાલેાજિકલ મેગેઝીનના ૧૯૪૬ ના જુલાઈ અને આગસ્ટના અંકમાં જે ‘ મેકડોનાલ્ડે’‘શું પૃથ્વી ચપટી છે ? ' એ શીર્ષક હેઠળ લેખ પ્રગટ કર્યાં હતા એ બે હપ્તે પૂર્ણ થયેા હતેા. ‘ પૃથ્વી દડા જેવી ગેાળ છે.' એ સિદ્ધાંતનું એણે ખૂખ સારી રીતે પ્રમાણુ આપીને ખડન કરી નાખ્યું હતું, આજના વિશ્વની સૃષ્ટિના બધા નિયમેાને તેણે પૃથ્વીને થાળી જેવી ગાળ કહીને સંગત કર્યાં હતા. તેણે તે લેખમાં સૂર્યને જ પરિભ્રમણ કરતા કહ્યો છે. તે કહે છે કે, 'સૂની ગાળાકાર અને નિરંતર ગતિ બધી જાતના પ્રયાગે દ્વારા બતાવી શકાય તેમ છે. સૂ જ ગતિ કરે છે છતાં એવા સિદ્ધાંત પ્રતિપાદિત કરવામાં આવ્યો છે કે પૃથ્વી પોતાની ધરી ઉપર કલાકના એક હજાર માઈલની ગતિથી ફરી રહી છે, એ કેટલી હાસ્યાસ્પદ બાબત છે! ! !' +
