________________ अनुवादकीय ११ सहस्री के विषषमें और भी लिखी है और वह यह कि 'हजार शास्त्रोंके सुनने से क्या, एक अष्टसहस्रीको सुनना चाहिए, जिस अकेली से ही स्वसमय और परसमय दोनोंका यथार्थ बोध होता है' ।' यह मात्र अपने ग्रन्थकी प्रशंसा में लिखा हुआ वाक्य नहीं है, बल्कि सच्ची वस्तुस्थितिका द्योतक है। एक बार खुर्जाके सेठ पं० मेवारामजीने बतलाया था कि जर्मनीके एक विद्वान् ने उनसे कहा है कि 'जिसने अष्टसहस्री नहीं पढ़ी वह जैनी नहीं और जो अष्टसहस्री को पढ़कर जैनी नहीं हुआ उसने अष्टसहस्रीको समझा नहीं ।' कितने महत्त्वका यह वाक्य है और एक अनुभवी विद्वान्के मुखसे निकला हुआ अष्टसहस्त्रीके गौरवको कितना अधिक ख्यापित करता है । सचमुच अष्टसहस्री ऐसी ही एक अपूर्व कृति है और वह देवागमके मर्मका उद्घाटन करती है । खेद है कि आज तक ऐसी महत्त्वकी कृतिका कोई हिन्दी अनुवाद ग्रन्थ- गौरव के अनुरूप होकर प्रकाशित नहीं हो सका । जिन्होंने स्तुति-विद्याका अध्ययन किया है वे जानते हैं कि समन्तभद्रको शब्दोंके ऊपर कितना अधिक एकाधिपत्य प्राप्त था । इलोकके एक चरणको उलटकर दूसरा चरण, पूर्वार्धको उलटकर उत्तरार्ध और सारे श्लोकको उलटकर दूसरा श्लोक बना देना तो उनके बाएँ हाथका खेल था । वे एक ही श्लोकके अक्षरोंको ज्यों-का-त्यों स्थिर रखते हुए उन्हें कुछ मिलाकर या अलगसे रखकर दो अर्थोके वाचक दो श्लोक प्रस्तुत करते थे । श्रीवीर भगवान्‌की स्तुति में एक पथका उत्तरार्ध है 'श्रीमते वर्द्धमानाय नमो नमितविद्विषे ।' यही उत्तरार्ध अगले दो पद्योंका भी उत्तरार्ध है । परन्तु अर्थ तीनों पद्योंके दूसरे से प्रायः भिन्न है । ये सब बातें रचनाके महत्त्व पूर्णताको व्यक्त करती हैं । प्रस्तुत देवागम भी ऐसे कलापूर्ण महत्त्वसे अछूता नहीं, उसमें एक कारिकाको एक जगह रखनेपर एक अर्थ, दूसरी जगह कुछ कारिकाओंके मध्य रखनेपर दूसरा अर्थ और तीसरी जगह उत्तरार्धीका एकऔर उनकी कला - १. श्रोतव्याष्टसहस्री श्रुतेः किमन्यैः सहस्रसंख्यानैः । विज्ञायेत ययैव स्वसमय-परसमयसद्भावः ॥ Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
