पड़ती हैं-सामान्य अर्थकी दृष्टिसे कोई खास कठिनाई मालूम नहीं पड़ती; परन्तु विशेषार्थ और फलितार्थकी दृष्टिमे जब विचार किया जाता है तो बहुत कुछ गहन-गम्भीर तथा अर्थगौरवको लिए हुए जान पड़ती हैं । सभी कारिकाएँ प्रायः सूत्ररूपमें हैं । अनेक कारिकाओंमें तो कितने ही सूत्र एकसाथ निबद्ध हो रहे हैं । सूत्रशैली प्रायः अतिसंक्षिप्तरूपसे कथनको शैली है और इसलिए सूत्रों अथवा सूत्ररूप कारिकाओंका अर्थ स्पष्ट करनेके लिए कितनी ही बातोंका ऊपरसे लेना-लगाना होता है, जिनसे यह मालूम हो सके कि सूत्रकारके सामने क्या परिस्थिति थी, कोई मत-विशेष अथवा प्रश्न-विशेष उपस्थित था, जिसे लेकर इसका अवतार हुआ है । श्री अकलंकदेवने अपने अष्टशती ( आठसौ श्लोकोंके परिमाण जितने )-भाष्यमें देवागमकी अर्थदृष्टिको सूत्ररूपमें ही खोला है । परन्तु विषयकी दृष्टि से वे सूत्र इतने कठिन और दुर्गम हो गये हैं कि साधारण विद्वान्की तो बात ही क्या, अच्छे विद्वान् भी उसे सहजमें नहीं लगा सकते हैं । उक्त अष्टशतो-भाष्यको अपनाकर श्रीविद्यानन्दाचार्यने देवागमपर जो अष्टसहस्री ( आठ-हजार श्लोक परिमाण ) नामकी अलङ्कृति लिखी है उससे अष्टशतीका सूत्रार्थ स्पष्ट अवभासित होता है और उसकी गम्भीरता एवं जटिलताका पता चल जाता है । यह अष्टसहस्री-टीका भी विषयकी दृष्टिसे कठिन शब्दोंकी भरमारको लिए हुए है और इसलिए एक विद्वान् यशोविजय ( श्वेताम्बराचार्य ) को इसपर टिप्पण लिखना पड़ा है, जिसका परिमाण भी आठ हजार श्लोक जितना हो गया है । इससे मूलग्नन्थ कितना अधिक गहन, गम्भीर तथा अर्थगौरवको लिए हुए है, यह और भी स्पष्ट हो जाता है।
