At present almost all the works of Dinnaga have been lost in Sanskrta. But a few have been preserved in the Tibetan and Chinese translations. From the Tibetan translations many important portions have been restored into Sanskrta by me and are given in the foot-notes at the relevant places in this Ara.
This restoration of Tibetan portions into Sanskrta will be of great help, we hope, not only to the students of Nayacakram, but also to the students and scholars of many other Indian philosophies to understand the old Buddhist ideas.
The Eighth Ara considers the Niyama of both Vidhi and Niyama. With this Ara the second Nemi, containing the Aras from five to eight, is completed.
We are highly thankful to the late Professor Dr. Erich Frauwallner, the Head of the Department of Indian Philosophies at the University of Vienna, Austria (Europe), who described in a schoiarly manner the eontents of the first foti Aras in his introduction of the First Part of this work. We had also hoped that he would describe in the similar seholarly way the contents of this part also. But as, we are extremely sorry to say, he ezpired last year, we could not get his valvable introduction for this part.
We express our thanks to all those, who have helped us in preparing, printing and publishing this volume.
We are very much pleased that this work is being brought out in the 2501 st year from the Nirvana of Lord Mahavira.
