________________
FOREWORD It gives me great pleasure to bring out the Part II of the Dvādasāram Nayacakram of Ācārya Sri Mallavāds with the commentary of Sri Simhasūri by the grace of Arihanta and Gurudeva.
The Nayacakram contains twelve Aras i. e. modes of consideration. Of these the first four were published as Part I about nine years ago. At that time it was our intention to publish the remaining eight Aras in one volume as Part II. The Aras from five to eight were printed but then owing to some unforeseen difficulties the Aras from nine to twelve have not been printed as yet. However owing to the pressing demand for publishing the Book, we have decided to publish the Aras from five t eight now as Part II. We hope that the remaining four Aras will be printed and brought out as part III very soon.
The Fifth Ara considers both the Vidhi and Niyama i. e. Dravya and Kriya. The Vaiyakaranah follow this.
The Sixth Ara considers the Vidhi of both Vidhi and Niyama (i. e. Sāmānya and Visesa). The Vaisesikah follow this.
The Seventh Ara considers both the Vidhi and Niyama of both the Vidhi and Niyama. In this Ara old Vaisesika works which are not extant now-a-days, such as Vākya, Bhāsya Tika by Prasastamati and Katandi Tika have been criticized at length. Also in this Ara, the meaning of the WORD is described according to the famous Buddhist Logician, Dinnaga, who is aptly called the Father of the Budhist Logic.
In the Eighth Ara, which is the longest of all the Aras, the doctrines of Bhartrhari, his teacher Vasurata, and Dinnāga and his commentators, have been fully repudiated.
