An analysis of linguistic transformations suggests that among the 42 examples of the Tattvarthasutra accepted in both traditions, the passages recognized by the Shvetambara community are significantly clearer in meaning, with 22 examples found therein, while there are only 11 examples from the Digambara text. The remaining 9 examples remain unaccounted for. From the perspective of grammar and interpretation, revered scholars have naturally attempted to make revisions to the sutras of the Tattvarthasutra as follows: (1) by making compound constructions of a type of thought and incorporating those sutras into a single sutra; (2) by organizing the meanings of words; and (3) by removing unnecessary words and adding the minimum necessary words for a clear expression of meaning. In this process, there seems to have been a neglect in the organization, which has resulted in difficulties in truly understanding the sutras. Thus, the reassessment of the text occurred soon after the division of traditions, as evidenced. It can be inferred that at that time, a similar tradition existed in the South, leading to the organizational errors here, which occurred due to the absence of a similar community in Southern India. However, this is not the case. The emphasis on correcting the original text from a linguistic standpoint may have led to this situation. Nonetheless, this arrangement clearly indicates that the linguistic study has failed to play the role needed to arrive at the conclusion of which version is the original from which another has been derived.
