Tattvarthasutra
The term "saṁprat" refers to three distinctions: the contemporary, the commonly accepted, and the thusness; however, in all current traditions, the term "saṁprat" has become established primarily in the first distinction of "śabdānaya." Thus, instead of providing a general definition of saṁprat, I have adopted the term for practical purposes in the further explanation. The explanation given here is essential for understanding the interpretation of saṁprat as stated in the commentary.
Page 24 [Line 8]: The term 'agurulaghu' is used in Jain tradition in three different meanings:
(1) In reference to the eight qualities and eight karmas related to the knowledge and perception of the soul, one of the soul's qualities is called 'agurulaghu,' which is associated with gōtrakarma. The function of gōtrakarma gives rise to feelings of superiority or inferiority in life. Due to birth, lineage, country, appearance, and numerous other circumstances, beings are treated as high or low in behavior. However, all souls are equal, with none being elevated or diminished. Thus, the natural quality or strength that preserves this equality is 'agurulaghu.'
(2) The term 'agurulaghu' represents a type of karma that falls under the sixth category of karmas. Its function has been discussed earlier in connection with the examination of name karma. Please refer to that section for further details.
