Chapter - Sutra 8-17
357 In Jina, eleven sufferings are possible. In the overarching sense, all meanings will manifest suffering.
Due to the cloud of knowledge, wisdom is obstructed, and ignorance is overcome. –
Through perception, and subsequently through obstructive karma, perception and non-advantage are obstructed.
Through conduct, nine aspects—suffering, anger, woman, regret, wrath, begging, and honoring—are obstructed.
All other covers are specific.
In one single soul, suffering can manifest from one up to nineteen possibilities.
While describing suffering as a means of restraint, the author of the sutra has elaborated on five points: the characteristics of suffering, their number, classification according to those who are competent, references to their causes, and the number of possible sufferings within one single soul. Each point is examined in detail as follows:
Suffering, referred to as “parishah,” is that state of being which must be endured with patience in order to remain steadfast on the path of the accepted religion and to cut through the bondage of karmas.
