અધ્યાય-૯
આઠમા અધ્યાયમાં બંધનું વર્ણન કરવામાં આવ્યું. હવે આ અધ્યાયમાં ક્રમ પ્રાપ્ત સંવરતત્વનું નિરૂપણ કરવામાં આવે છે. પ્રથમ સંવરનું સ્વરૂપ કહે છે :
आस्रवनिरोधः संवरः ।। આશ્વવને નિધિ તે સંવર.
જે નિમિત્ત વડે કર્મ બંધાય તે આસવ, એવી આસવની વ્યાખ્યા પહેલાં કરવામાં આવી છે, તે આસવને નિરોધ એટલે પ્રતિબંધ કરવો એ સંવર કહેવાય છે. આસવના ૪૨ ભેદો પહેલાં ગણાવવામાં આવ્યા છે, તેને જેટજેટલે અંશે નિધિ થાય તે, તેટકેટલે અંશે સંવર કહેવાય. આધ્યાત્મિક વિકાસને ક્રમ એ આસવનિરોધના વિકાસને આભારી છે, તેથી જેમ જેમ આસ્રવનિરોધ વધતો જાય, તેમ તેમ ગુણસ્થાન ચઢતું જાય છે.
