Chapter - Sutra 10
The work here is complete by taking the main two meanings of the word "asat": 1. To completely deny that which possesses existence; saying it is asat is different from its actual existence. 2. Garvit asat, meaning, that which, despite being true, causes pain to others due to its wrongful intention, is asat.
According to the first meaning, to say "there is nothing" when an obligation still exists, despite being worshipped, is untruth; similarly, to provide false information in such a way that the debtor does not succeed, despite accepting that they are due, is also untruth. According to the second meaning, to cause distress to some illiterate or naive person by speaking the truth, while saying something derogatory like "illiterate or naive," is untruth. From these meanings of untruth, the following meanings arise for one who takes a vow of truth: 1. To give up in the face of ignorance. 2. To achieve uniformity in the activities of body, speech, and mind. 3. Not to think, speak, or perform actions with malicious intent even when the truth is adverse. [9] Now describes the nature of theft.
अदत्तादान स्तेयम् ॥१०॥
Taking what is not given is termed "theft." If something is owned by someone else, even if it is utterly worthless like a piece of straw, taking it without the owner's permission through the mentality of theft is known as "theft."
From this explanation, the following meanings arise for one who takes a vow of non-theft: 1. To be tempted by any object.
