Chapter - 7
In the context of the seven vows, compassion and charity are considered essential; this chapter provides a detailed explanation of the vows and charity that hold significant importance in Jain philosophy.
The first vow is described as:
"Refraining from violence, falsehood, theft, sexual misconduct, and possessiveness is the essence of the vow."
The nature of defects such as violence and falsehood will be elaborated further. Understanding these flaws and renouncing them is the essence of this vow.
Ahimsa (non-violence) holds a primary position among the other vows because, just like the pillar for a structure, all other vows are based on the protection of non-violence, thus emphasizing its precedence.
