અધ્યાય—૭
સાતવેદનીયના આસવામાં વ્રતી ઉપર અનુકપા અને દાન એ એ ગણવામાં આવ્યાં છે; તેમના વધારે ખુલાસા કરવાના પ્રસંગ લઈ, જૈનપર પરામાં મહત્ત્વ ધરાવતાં વ્રત અને દાન તેનું સવિશેષ નિરૂપણુ આ અધ્યાયમાં કરવામાં આવે છે.
પ્રથમ વ્રતનું સ્વરૂપ કહે છે ઃ
हिंसात्तस्तेयाब्रह्मपरिग्रहेभ्यो विरतिब्रतम् । १ । હિંસા, અસત્ય, ચારી,મૈથુન અને પરિગ્રહથી (મન, વચન, કાયા વડે) નિવૃત્ત થવું તે વ્રત.
હિંસા, અસત્ય આદિ દોષોનું સ્વરૂપ આગળ કહેવામાં આવશે. દાષાને સમજી, તેમને ત્યાગ સ્વીકારી પછી તે દોષા ન સેવવા એ જ વ્રત' છે.
અહિંસા એ બીજા વ્રતા કરતાં પ્રધાન હાવાથી તેનું સ્થાન પહેલું છે. પાકની રક્ષા માટે વાડની જેમ, બીજા બધાં વ્રતા અહિંસાની રક્ષા માટે હોવાથી, તેની પ્રધાનતા માનવામાં આવે છે.
