Tattvarthasutra
Being devoid of virtue and being freed from it, as well as the previously mentioned slight beginning and so on, are all causative of the hellish life forms.
264
Being endowed with passions, the ripened, the non-desiring liberation, and the mala of the divine life forms are the causes of bondage.
The curvature of hate and contradiction are causes of inauspicious karma.
In contrast, the lack of hate and non-contradiction are causes of auspicious karma.
1. According to verse 50, the explanation of this sutra is that lack of virtue and lack of desire... both are the influx of the hellish life forms; similarly, considering a human born in the heavenly realm, the lack of virtue and lack of desire are also the influx of the divine life forms. This is inclusive of the influx of divine life forms, which is not elaborately mentioned in the commentary of the Shvetambara. However, the commentator suggests that the scholars recognize this flaw in the commentary’s reasoning and complete it according to the tradition.
2. In the Digambara perspective, an additional influx is identified in the present sutra concerning divine life forms, and for that, there is another separate sutra “Samyaktva.” According to the Digambara view, this sutra indicates that Samyaktva (right vision) is the influx of beings in the heavenly abode and so forth; according to the Shvetambara perspective, this fact is not stated in the commentary, yet the commentator, while addressing the commentary, includes several influxes, taking Samyaktva into account.
