The description of the Tavaṭhasūtra appears in A0 2 Sū 20. Here, the meaning of "indriya" is their activities characterized by attachment and aversion, because no indriya can be the cause of karmic bondage merely by its form, and the activities of indriyas devoid of attachment and aversion cannot cause karmic bondage either.
The names and characteristics of the twenty-five activities are as follows: 1. “Samyafartakriyā” means the proper activity of worship of the deity, guru, and scripture, representing the activity of right understanding. 2. “Mithyātvakriyā” refers to the worship and praise of the endowed deities driven by the force of mithyātva mohaṇīya karma. 3. The activity of going and coming through the body, etc., is called “Pragakriyā.” 4. The activity of leaning towards enjoyment after renunciation is called “Samādanakriyā.” 5. The activity that becomes the cause of the bondage of īpatha karma is called “Īpathakriyā.”
1. The effort made with malice means being ready for a sensual desire, which is called “Kāyikī kriyā.” 2. The act of adopting instruments for violence is called “Ādhikaranikī kriyā.” 3. The activity arising from the emotion of anger is “Prādoṣikī.” The act of tormenting living beings is known as “Pāritāpanikī.” 5. The act of separating a living being from life is called “Prāṇātipātikī.”
