Chapter 6
The description of the soul and the non-soul has been elaborated; now, the discourse on asrava will follow step by step. It first defines the nature of asrava through the description of chhoga:
Body, speech, and mind are the activities of karma yoga.
That is asrava.
The actions of the body, speech, and mind are referred to as chhoga.
Asrava, therefore, is that which is produced by the activities that create bonds.
The movement caused by the क्सय or decay of virya and the external associations of pudgala resulting in the discerning of the self is termed as chola.
Based on the kinds of association, there are three kinds: kayayag, vachanayag, and manoyag.
That which is not associated with the pudgala of the gross body, which is in the act of participating, is ‘kayagyag.’
The actions of speech arise from the associations of vachana, resulting from the decay of karma such as knowledge through envisioning and the scriptural hearing.
