અધ્યાય ૫-સૂત્ર ૧૯-૨૦
હવે કાર્યો દ્વારા પુદ્ગલનું લક્ષણ કહે છે : शरीरवाङ्मनः प्राणापाना : पुद्गलानाम् । १९ । सुखदुःखजीवितमरणोपग्रहाश्च । २० । શરીર, વાણી, મન, નિ:શ્વાસ અને ઉચ્છ્વાસ એ પુદ્દગલાના ઉપકાર—કાય છે.
તથા સુખ, દુ:ખ, જીવન અને મરણુ એ પણ પુદ્દગલાના ઉપકાર છે.

અનેક પૌદ્ગલિક કાર્યોમાંથી કેટલાંક કાર્ય અહીંયાં બતાવ્યાં છે, જે જીવા ઉપર અનુગ્રહ અથવા નિગ્રહ કરે છે. ઔદારિક આદિ બધાં શરીર પૌગલિક એટલે પુદ્દગલના જ બનેલાં છે; જો કે કા શરીર અતી દ્રિય છે, તેપણ તે બીજા ઔદારિકાદિ મૂર્તી દ્રવ્યના સંબંધથી સુખદુઃખાદિ વિપાક આપે છે; જેમ પાણી વગેરેના સંબંધથી ધાન્ય કણ, એથી જ એને પણ પૌગલિક સમજવુ જોઈ એ.
એ પ્રકારની ભાષામાંથી ભાવભાષા એ વીર્માંન્તરાય, મતિજ્ઞાનાવરણ અને શ્રુતજ્ઞાનાવરણના ક્ષયાપશમથી તથા અગેાપાંગનામક ના ઉદયથી પ્રાપ્ત થતી એક વિશિષ્ટ શક્તિ છે. તે પુદગલસાપેક્ષ હોવાથી પૌલિક છે, અને એવા શક્તિવાળા આત્મા દ્વારા પ્રેરિત થઈ ને વચનરૂપમાં પરિણત થતા ભાષાવાના સ્કંધ દ્રવ્ય ભાષા છે.
લબ્ધિ તથા ઉપયાગરૂપ ભાવમન પુદ્ગલાવલ ખિતહાવાથી પૌદ્ગલિક છે. જ્ઞાનાવરણ તથા વીર્યાન્તરાયના ક્ષયેાપશમથી અને અગાપાંગનામકર્મના ઉદયથી મનાવાના જે કધા ગુણદોષવિવેચન, સ્મરણ આદિ કાર્યમાં અભિમુખ
