Chapter 4 - Sutra 2122
Birth occurs; such pride is a kashaya, which diminishes in the divine beings above as one progresses upwards. There are five more aspects related to the deity that need to be understood as mentioned in the sutra: 1. Ucchvāsa (exhalation), 2. Āhāra (food), 3. Vedanā (sensations), 4. Upapāta (fall), and 5. Anubhava (experience).
1. Ucchvāsa: As the status of the deity increases, the time of exhalation also increases. For example, a deity with a lifespan of ten thousand years has one exhalation for every seven stock-measurements of time; a deity with a lifespan of a palyopama has one exhalation in a day; for a deity with a lifespan comparable to a sāgaropama, the norm is that as long as its lifespan is equivalent to that many sūgaropamas, it has one exhalation every so many fortnights.
2. Āhāra: The rule is that a deity with a lifespan of ten thousand years consumes food once every day; deities with a palyopama lifespan consume food after a day; for deities with a lifespan equivalent to a sāgaropama, the rule is that they consume food after that many thousands of years.
3. Vedanā: Generally, deities experience seven pleasurable sensations; if they experience an unpleasurable sensation, it does not last longer than an inner moment. The seven sensations are traded up to the number nine from the word "pṛthak."
