તત્વાર્થસૂત્ર ચાર એજનની ઊંચાઈ ઉપર બુધ ગ્રહ, બુધથી ત્રણ જન ઊંચે શુક્ર, શુક્રથી ત્રણ યોજન ઊંચે ગુરુ, ગુરુથી ત્રણ જન ઊંચે મંગળ અને મંગળથી ત્રણ યોજન ઊંચે શનૈશ્ચર છે. અનિયતચારી તારા જ્યારે સૂર્યની નીચે ચાલે છે, ત્યારે તે સૂર્યની નીચે દશ એજનપ્રમાણ જ્યોતિષ ક્ષેત્રમાં ચાલે છે, જ્યોતિષ-પ્રકાશમાન વિમાનમાં રહેવાને કારણે સૂર્ય આદિ
તિષ્ક કહેવાય છે. એ બધાના મુકુટોમાં પ્રભામંડલ જેવું ઉજજવલ સૂર્યાદિના મંડળ જેવું ચિહ્ન હોય છે. સૂર્યને સૂર્યમંડળના જેવું, ચંદ્રને ચંદ્રમંડળના જેવું અને તારાને તારામંડળના જેવું ચિહ્ન હોય છે. [૧૩]
