છે;૧ એ શાખા આર્ય શાંતિશ્રેણિકથી નીકળેલી છે. આર્યશાંતિશ્રેણિક આર્ય સુહસ્તીથી ચેાથી પેઢીએ આવે છે. આસુહસ્તીના શિષ્ય સુસ્થિત-સુપ્રતિબદ્ધ અને તેમના શિષ્ય ઇંદ્રદિન્ન. ઇંદ્રદિનના શિષ્ય દિન્ન અને દિશના શિષ્ય શાંતિશ્રેણિક નોંધાયેલ છે. શાંતિશ્રેણિક એ આવાના ગુરુ જે આસ હગિરિ, તેમના ગુરુભાઈ થાય; એટલે તે આવાની પહેલી પેઢીમાં આવે છે. આ સુહસ્તીને સ્વર્ગવાસસમય વીરાત્ ૨૯૧ અને વજ્રા સ્વર્ગવાસસમય વીરાત ૫૮૪ નોંધાયેલા મળે છે, એટલે સુહસ્તીના સ્વર્ગવાસસમયથી વજ્રના સ્વવાસસમય સુધીનાં ૨૯૩ વર્ષમાં પાંચ પેઢી મળી આવે છે. આ રીતે સરેરાશ એકએક પેઢીને સાઠ વષઁ કાળ લેતાં સુહસ્તીથી ચોથી પેઢીએ થનાર શાંતિશ્રેણિકના પ્રારંભકાળ લગભગ વીરાત્૪૭૧ ને આવે. આ વખત દરમિયાન કે થાડું આગળ પાછળ શાંતિશ્રેણિકથી ઉચ્ચનાગરી શાખા નીકળી હશે. વાચક ઉમાસ્વાતિ, શાંતિશ્રેણિકની જ ઉચ્ચનાગર શાખામાં થયા છે એમ માની લઈ એ, અને એ શાખા નીકળ્યાના ઉપર અટકળ કરેલ સમય સ્વીકારી આગળ ચાલીએ, તે પણ એ કહેવું કઠણ છે કે, વાચક ઉમાસ્વાતિ એ શાખા નીકળ્યા પછી કારે થયા ? કારણ કે પોતાના દીક્ષાગુરુ અને વિદ્યાગુરુનાં જે નામે પ્રશસ્તિમાં તેમણે
"थेरेहितो णं अजसंतिसेणिएहितो माढरसगुत्तेहितो एत्थ णं ઉષાનારી સાદા નિમ્નયા” । મૂળ કલ્પસૂત્રસ્થવિરાવલિ, પૃ૦ ૫૫, આર્ય શાંતિશ્રેણિકની પૂર્વપર પરા જાણવા માટે એથી આગળનાં ‘કલ્પસૂત્ર’નાં પાનાં જુએ.
