As far as the guru-disciple relationship is concerned, it is surprising why such confusion has existed regarding the clan. However, when attention is turned to the historically contextual delusions and the lack of a proper historical perspective, this confusion resolves itself. The brief eulogy that the reader mentions about Umaswati is the only true instrument established by him. Many other facts associated with his name have been passed down through both traditions. However, since all of them are still subject to scrutiny, they cannot be adhered to literally. His brief eulogy and its essence are as follows:
"To the principal speaker Shivashri, proclaimed by the esteemed student, the one who is skilled in the eleven branches of knowledge.
By the discourse of the great speaker Kamana, the disciple of the revered teacher of eloquence, who is known by the name Prathita.
While residing in the city of Kusuma, born from the Nigrodha tree, accompanied by the son of Svati, Vatsasi.
The Arhat word, properly understood in the sequence of the guru's teachings, observes the world's suffering and the obstacles to its understanding.
In this way, uttered with profound sincerity by the elegant speaker, the scripture composed by Umaswati, which elucidates the essence of reality.
He who comprehends this scripture and acts accordingly will soon attain the ultimate truth that is free from hindrance."
