Chapter 2 - Sutra 11-14
There are four types of beings: one-sensed, two-sensed, three-sensed, four-sensed, and five-sensed.
What is the meaning of "moving" and "stationary"?
The former refers to beings that can move due to the arising of the karma known as 'trasa', meaning they are capable of movement despite being subject to fear; whereas "stationary" refers to those that cannot move even when they experience fear, due to the arising of the karma known as 'sthavara'.
How can we identify the arising of 'trasa' karma and 'sthavara' karma?
Wherever there is a clear activity of avoiding suffering and acquiring happiness, it is understood as the arising of 'trasa' karma; where such activity is not visible, it indicates the arising of 'sthavara' karma.
Is it not true that beings with physical and aerial forms also seem to exhibit such activities which would categorize them as 'trasa'?
Indeed, they are.
Then why are they not classified as 'sthavara' like those of earth, etc.?
In fact, they are 'sthavara' according to the given definition. Here, only the basic quality of 'trasa' is considered with regard to those beings. Therefore, there are two types: 'labdhitrasa' and 'gatitrasa'. Those that have the arising of 'trasa' karma are called 'labdhitrasa'. They are the main 'trasa' beings, encompassing those from one-sensed to five-sensed beings.
