Chapter 2
In the first chapter, the names of the seven substances were indicated. In the next new chapter, they will be discussed in order; therefore, first in this chapter, the essence of the living substance – its nature is shown along with a description of its various distinctions and characteristics, continuing until the fourth chapter.
The five types of living beings, their distinctions, and examples:
1. The living being has four types of characteristics: the potentially destructive (upashamika), the quasi-destructive (kshayika), the mixed (mishra), and the substantial (swatantrata).
2. There are twenty-one distinct divisions of living beings in total according to the specified categories.
3. The characteristics of right faith (samyak-tva) are to be observed.
4. The characteristics of correct knowledge (shana), right vision (darshan), the benefits of donation, and the potency of enjoyment.
5. The attainments related to the knowledge and vision through donation and other means, in proper order.
6. The distinctions of living beings include mobility (gati), destructibility (kshaya), identity (linga), false belief (mithya-darshana), knowledge, restraint, and the qualities that lead to liberation (siddha) and the distinctions of each type.
7. The distinctions of living beings include the categories of the noble (bhavya) and the ignoble (abhavya), among others.
