Chapter 1 - Sutra 23
1. When color is applied and then the cloth is taken away from that place, the color remains permanently on the cloth despite it moving to a different location, which is termed 'anugamik'.
2. Just as some astrological knowledge can accurately answer questions only in specific locations and not elsewhere, similarly, that awareness which does not remain after leaving its originating place is termed 'anānugamik'.
3. Just as a spark from a deity, although very small, continues to grow by acquiring more dry wood and such from firewood etc., similarly, that awareness which has minimal subject matter at the time of origin continues to expand systematically beyond that minimal subject matter with the purity of the result, is termed 'vamān'.
4. Just as fire in finite materials diminishes gradually when not fed with new things, similarly, that awareness which has a broader subject matter at the time of origin but decreases systematically in subject matter due to a decline in result purity is termed 'hīyamān'.
5. Just as certain types of auspicious and inauspicious impressions accompany a soul from one life to the next or persist throughout one's life, similarly, that awareness which persists even after a birth...
