When one does not have inquiry, it results in practical misunderstanding. All other misunderstandings that then arise lead to new inquiries about the specifics, which are practical interpretations.
Regarding the 12 divisions of practical interpretation, it is said that those divisions should be understood in relation to practical interpretation, not in the context of the ethical one; a question arises that if we accept this, how can the 336 divisions of mental knowledge arise as stated above? Since the 28 varieties of mental knowledge repeatedly give rise to divisions totaling 336, and within those 28 varieties, there are 4 types of sense interpretation, which are extremely ineffable in terms of the ethical interpretation. Therefore, should we eliminate a total of 48 divisions based on this reasoning?
The response is: the practical interpretation can clearly delineate the above 12 divisions, thus providing answers from a gross perspective. In reality, both ethical interpretation and its predecessor, sense interpretation, should also be understood in terms of their respective divisions; this must be based on the principle of equality of cause and effect. That is to say, the cause of practical interpretation is ethical interpretation, and its cause is sense interpretation. Now, if in practical interpretation, specific phenomena are vividly apparent, then that must also be acknowledged in the direct causing ethical interpretations and practical sense interpretations regarding the same phenomena. However, since such phenomena are vague, they remain unclear. The vagueness is there.
