Tattvartha Sutra
True happiness in worldly existence and the illusion of happiness —
So what?
Worldly happiness comes from fulfilling desires. Now, the nature of desires is such that when one is fulfilled, others arise in disproportion, producing endless dissatisfaction. The fulfillment of all these desires is not possible; and even if there is a slight satisfaction, countless other desires will arise that cannot be fulfilled. Therefore, the happiness derived from the fulfillment of worldly desires is overshadowed by the greater burden of suffering arising from unfulfilled desires. Hence, worldly happiness is referred to as an illusion of happiness. The state of liberation is such that desires are absent, and natural contentment manifests; therefore, the happiness arising from this contentment is the true happiness. Now, it describes the characteristic of right faith:
“Right faith is the inclination to determine the essence of substances.”
It now states the causes of the emergence of right vision: “It arises either from nature (resultado) or from attainment (cause).”
Thus, right vision arises either from nature, meaning merely as a result, or from attainment, meaning through instrumental causes.
