INTRODUCTION
uniform titles of the ten Prakirṇakasūtras. Yet in order to arrive at the number 45 of the Agamas, Agamoddharaka Rev. Acarya Shri Sagarananda sūrīśvarajī, a matchless scholar of the Agamas, determined the number 10 of the Prakirnakasutras and got them published through Agamodaya Samiti in 1927 A.D. As already suggested, this was necessary for arriving at the number 45 of the Agamas. But it is a fact that no sound basis for fixed established ten titles of the ten Prakirņakasutras is available. With regard to not only the ten Prakirnakas but the other Agamas also, Muni Punyavijayaji was confronted with doubts during his long research in this field. To clear these doubts he decided to see Ac. Sagaranandaji who was in Surat at that time and suffering from a disease that ultimately took away his life. So, he left Baroda for Surat. He stayed there for a fortnight. He fully discussed with Sagaranandaji those readings and portions of the texts of the Agamas, which required thoughtful consideration and examination. During his stay at Surat he kept his bed close to that of Sagaranandaji so that he could utilise his time before sleep at night in holding discussions with Sagaranandaji. At this time, along with other points, the number 10 of the Prakirnakas was also the subject of discussion. But Muni Punyavijayaji could not obtain from Ac. Sagaranandaji any information with textual corroboration. Late Shri Mohanlal Dalichand Desai, a great scholar who devoted his whole life to search of and research in Jaina Literature, has given in the Jaina Granthavali' compiled by him and published by the Jaina Conference three different lists of ten Prakirnakas. This shows that even he has not found one uniform list enumerating uniform titles of ten Prakirṇakas. This being the situation, Muni Shri Punyavijayaji made up his mind to publish those 20 Prakirṇakasūtras whose old or very old manuscripts are available in different jñānabhaṇḍāras (Jaina Manuscript Libraries).
Information about the press-copies of the Prakirnakasūtras is as follows: The texts of Cattarimamgalasutta (p. 1), Isibhāsiyānam samgahani (p. 179), Isibhāsitaatthähigārasamgahani (p. 180) and Viratthao (p. 292-97) are copied by Muni Shri Punyavijayaji himself. Again, he has completely corrected these copies and made them faultless. The texts of the three Prakirnakasutras viz. Aurapaccakkhāna [1] (pp. 160-163), Divasagarapannattisamgahaṇīgāhão (pp. 257-279) and Causaranapainnayam (pp. 309-311) are copied by Rev.
