भगवान महावीर पर सम्प्रति-पर्यन्त बहुविध स्तरीय कार्य हुए है, किन्तु यह ग्रन्थ अपने आप में अभूतपूर्व है । शोध-स्नातकों के लिए तो यह ग्रन्थ सारस्वत वरदान सिद्ध होगा, ऐसा मेरा आत्म-विश्वास है। 'वर्धमान जीवन कोश' का प्रथम खण्ड भी उपादेय सिद्ध हुआ था। यद्यपि सामान्यतया लोग कोश-निर्माण के कार्य को महत्ता की दृष्टि से नहीं देखते, परन्तु मेरा विचार है कि मौलिक चिन्तनमूलक ग्रन्थ-लेखन उतना वेष्यपूर्ण और श्रमसाध्य नहीं है, जितना कि कोश संग्रहीत करना। मैं ऐसे ग्रन्थों का हृदय से स्वागत किया करता हूँ।

"वर्धमान जीवन कोश' पर प्राप्त समीक्षा" The present work is the third volume in the series of Cyclopaedia of Jainism proposed to be published on behalf of Late Shri Mohan Lal Banthia. The first volume was the Cyclopaedia of Losya and the second volume was the cyclopaedia of kriya. Both these volumes promed to be the complete cyclopaedia of two highly technical subjects of Jain Philosophy. Now, this third volume, which is an exhaustive collection of material related to the life of Bhagawan
Mahavira, whose birth-name was Vardhamana.
The learned compilers of this cyclopaedic work, Late Shri Mohan Lal Banthia and Shri Shrichand Choraria, have taken paina to collect all the available material concerning the life of Bhagawan Mahavira from all literary sources -the Jain canons, the commentaries on the Jain canons, the later non-canonical Prakrit and Sanskrit works, the Buddhist Pali texts, as well as other available sources.
