That man of the past has passed through many cultural transformations since then. Archaeology has assumed much importance during the present time. The archaeological studies have unearthed those cultures which lay unnoticed in the remains belonging to past thousands years. According to W.W. Tylor archaeology is a method which collects cultural informations adopting modern methods. The main aim of archaeology is to collect more and more information about the pre-literate human society. Among the archaelogical material stone-made implements, pieces of pottery, bones and metal-made things are counted. The archaelogist adopts several methods to enearth the cultures of the past. Among these the survey, excavation, analysis and interpretation and report writing deserve mention. During the begining of the 19th century the archaeologists have contributed a lot in the development of archaeological studies. The present dictionary contains all the much terms of archaeology and gives their Hindi meaning to enable the student to grasp proper sense of the term. It is hoped that the present work will prove helpful to the students and the general beaders. For Private and Personal Use Only Archaeology is a science which has developed its own terminology plaraseology and methods. The knowledge of these technical terms is essential for the student as well as for the general reader.
