This path is available in reach of every one rather than a property or patent of some one. Such great souls are known as "Tirthanker". One of the meaning of Tirth is "Dharm", that is to do good or the right path and "Ker" means who does it. In short, this means one who has found the path and has established for others to follow. These great souls have attained the absolute knowledge and by this they have shown the path of liberation to others. About 2700 years ago, the 23rd Tirthanker named Parasnath came. With his spiritual practices, he obtained perfect knowledge. He prescribed following path for those who want to be free from miseries and sufferings: 1. Ahimsa: "A" stands for "non" and "himsa" stands for violence. Ahimsa thus means nonviolence. This means non-injury to any one. This word is not restricted to human beings but it applies to all life forms, Whether it is plant, animal, virus, bacteria, any known or unknown life form in the universe. It does not matter whether it is Earth, water, air or space related. Injury of any form for example: mentally, physically or by actions is a violence. This consists from by thought, speech and 113
