Some of the ascetics were important Acāryas. Aristanemi mentioned in No. 11 was an Acārya who died on the Kața. vapra Hill in the presence of Dindika, probably a king.
Other Munis and Acāryas whose Sallekhanā deaths are recorded in these inscriptions are Baladeva Muni (No. 2), Gunasena, Panappa Bhattāra, Sarvajña Bhattāra of Vegur, Akşayakīrti of Southern Madura who was bitten by a snake, Gunadeva-sūri. Baladeva guravad igal, who was a disciple of Dharmasena of Velmad of Kittūr; Ugrasena, disciple of Pattini Guruvādigal of Malenur; Māsenarşi, Säntisena Muni who gave impetus to the Jaina faith, Singanandi, Nāgasena, disciple of Rsabhasena, Baladevācārya, Candradevācārya, renowned in the Nādi Kingdom, Puspanandi, Nandisenamuni, Vītaśoka Bhattāra of Koļattūra Sangha, Indranandi Acārya, Puspasena Acārya of Navilur Sangha, Srideva Ācārya, Vļşabhanandi, desciple of Muniācārya of Navilūr Sangha, and Meghanandi. muni of the same Sangha.
Amongst the nuns whose deaths are noted are: Dhanna. kuţtarevi-guravi, Jumbu nāygīr, Nāgamati Gantiyār female disciple of Muni Guruvādiga of Chittūr in Adeyanāre Nādu, Sasimati Ganțiyar, Rājamati Gantiyār of Aji-gaņa of Navilūr Sangha, Aryā of Mayūragrāma-Sangha, that is, Navilur Sangha, Guņamati avvegaļ of Navilūr Sangha, Prabhāvati and Demitamati of the same Sangha.
Among the Śrāvakas and Śravikis who died by observing Sallekhana, mention may be made of the following: Vaijabbe daughter of Bettadeva, Sayibbe-kantiyār, female disciple of Kumāranandi Bhattāra, Pollabbe kantiyār, Pāyisețţi son of Nāgasetti, lay disciple of Abhinava Paņditācārya, Dharmabhūşaņa, Hemacandrakīrti, disciple of śāntikīrti, Mallisena, disciple of Lakşmisena Bhattāraka and Ajitakīrti, disciple of Sāntikīrti.
