________________ SĀHITYAMĪMĀMSĀ: PRAKRIT TEXT RESTORED V. M. Kulkarni This paper deals with the highly corrupt Prakrit passages from the Sahityamimänisā which, to my despair, had been left out as beyond restoration in my two earlier studies! : 1. Nibhuam khunam sasijai (?)...p.68 Note: This verse, which is very corrupt, containing as it also does a lacuna, may be restored with the help of the singāraprakāśa (Vol. I, p. 619, nihuam khu nisasijjai, etc.): णिहु खु णीससिज्जड़ रुव्वइ राईसुतं पिणीसद् । पइम्मि कआवराहे हिअइच्छिआणि ण्हुविजांति॥ (निभृतं खलु निःश्वस्यते रुधते रात्रिषु तदपि निःशब्दम् । पत्यौ कृतापराधे ह्यदयेप्सितानि ह्युयन्ते ॥) Alaam janamti dakaha (?)... p.96 Note : The text of this verse, too, is highly corrupt. It is cited as such in Bhoja's Sarasvatikanthäbharaṇa (V. v. no 13, P. 576) and Narendraprabha's Alarkāramahodadhi as an example of rasābhāsa. Metrically, both quotations are imperfect. There the text makes clear mention of 'Dasakandhara,' 'Rāghava,' and Janakasuta'; and these names lead us to trace the verse to the Setubandha. Although its Nirnayasagar edition does not include it, the Calcutta edition (Ravanavahamahäkävyam) presents it at XV. 66. K. K. Handiqui? rightly observes : "But not a few commentators from different parts of India seem to have rejected it because of the unpleasant idea involving Sitā in the description." पुलअंजणेति दसकंधरस्स राहव-सरा सरीर-अडता। WUT37-AUT3T-03116:00-grafa31-0-312--foragar 11 (yrian ref H a : 2-472T: 1 077-0721-art-8f-Helen-she-rafrafat: 1) Hatthi puhaina hi śuddhan (?)... p.101 Note : This verse is undoubtedly highly obscure. But the significant expression 'suapadamugginnaditta' provided the cue. The expression is a corrupt form of 'sua-padhamubbhinnadanta' which in a flash led me to identify the verse with the Gathāsaptaśati II. 200: Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
