Of great importance for the history of Buddhism in India are inscriptions, and particularly the Aśokan inscriptions. Ulrich Schneider has published a critical edition and translation of the rock edicts.116 K. R. In 1881 the Pali Text Society was founded by T. W. Rhys Davids, 120 To commemorate the centenary of its foundation, the Pali Text Society published volume 9 of the Journal of the Pali Text Society to which fifteen scholars contributed articles. 121 Under the guidance of Miss Horner and K.
