Udayan Mantri - By Dr. Renuka Porwal, Mob.: 098218 77327
Udayan was an ordinary merchant from Vaghara near Jalore. He and his wife Suhadevi both moved to Karnavati to earn their livelihood. First they went to a Jaina shrine for darshan. There they met a Sravika Lachchhi who offered them an old house for shelter.
While digging to renovate their house, they came across a hidden treasure. Honest Udayan offered it to Sravika Lachcchi, which she refused to accept. With that money, he started a full scale business. He was appointed as the governor of Khambhat by the King Siddharaj and also by King Kumarpal. He abolished the pilgrimage tax as suggested by Queen Mother Minaladevi.
VONOV
Once at Palitana, he saw a mouse moving with a lit cotton-batti. Realising the danger to the wooden temple, he vowed to replace it with marble. An encounter with a gangster proved fatal for him, but before death he took a promise from his four sons-Ambad, Bahad, Chahad and Sollak that they would renovate the shrine of Palitana.
