________________ | ३३} We are however glad to notice in this connection that a daparture for the good has been made at Rawalpindi and would like the other big towns to follow the example. It appears that Lala Uttamchand who is by the way, a young man of much public spirit and actions, unheeded by the opposition offered to him, has given a particularly reformed form to the festivities of Dusserah which will be followed year after year and would no doubt impart a very healthy form to the occasion. In brief a coming feature for this year and the years to follow has been given the form of a tournament of sport for all comers which evidently means a most useful occupation of the time for young folks and a regular treat for onlooker. Just compare the significance of this event with the immoderate and immortal bearing of the Dasserah festivities, in common and you would at once realise the change for the good. We would publish the result of the events hereafter which consist of cricket and football competitions, Tug-of-war, Kabbadi, 100 yards race, quarter-mile race, long and high jumps, putting the weight, sack and three legged races and the Blindman's buff. The competing teams for the cricket play in lhe following order. 24th September, S. N. Government High School, versus, D. A. V. High School (a). 25th September, Winners of (a) versus, U. S. Mission High School. નં. ૨૧ JUBBULPORE POST. Dt. 21-9-1906. The Jain "Swetamber Conference" has sent us a Copy of a appeal addressed to Hindoo Chiefs, begging them to stop animal Sacrifices in their territories on the Sacred day of Dasra. The object of these Sacrificies is to keep away plague, Cholera and small-pox and the Conference point to the fact that these Visitations occur notwithstanding the Slaughter that takes place for the propitiation of the goddess and suggests, with good reason that, the Sanitary Measures adopted in British territory may be followed with better results. The appeal is a reasonable one and we hope it will have the desired effect. Shree Sudharmaswami Gyanbhandar-Umara, Surat समाप्त. www.umaragyanbhandar.com
