He received his Bachelor of Science degree at California State University at Los Angeles and also holds a Doctorate in Religious Studies from the University of the West, California, USA. He has served as commissioner and Chairman of the Cultural Commission of the City of El Monte since 1997. He is the author of the book 1-Kuan Tao'. 108 Bowls: A Mala of Water Ven Bonnie Myotai Treace Room 216 Lecture Water is a shared reality of the human experience. Our existence depends upon it, we are made of it, its crisis is our own, its beauty heals our hearts as perhaps no other natural element can. This talk profiles the movement inspired by the Bodies of Water School (BOWS) of simply 'paying attention to water, in which groups of 108 people agree to place small ceramic cups (each made and fired ritually as an offering by a BOWS artist) filled with water in a windowsill in their home. What began with a few Buddhist practitioners now includes people of many faiths, engaging in a simple gesture that is seemingly private and has already changed the way hundreds of people live. Ven Bonnie Myotai Treace is the founder of Hermitage Heart Zen and the Bodies of Water School of Practice. For many years she was the Vice-Abbess of Zen Mountain Monastery and Abbess of the Zen Center of New York City, having received ordination and transmission in the Soto School of Buddhism. Her work in recent years has been dedicated to the intrareligious and to bringing environmental protection and celebration into contemplative depth. Closing Remarks on Conflict Resolution Dharma Master Hsin Tao Father Leonel Narvaez Room 219 Panel Discussion When people of conviction, skill and knowledge commit themselves to understanding, nonviolence and peace, aggression can be stemmed and, sometimes, ended. Summing up the insights, inspiration and knowledge gained in the Conflict Resolution Sessions, Dharma Master Hsin Tao, Father Leonel Narvaez and others discuss practical ways to achieve peace building in our time. Dharma Master Hsin Tao was born in Burma in 1948 and came to Taiwan at age thirteen. He became a monk at age 25 and established the Wu-sheng Monastery on Ling-jou mountain in 1983. He founded the Museum of World Religions and is president of the Global Family of Love and Peace. The series of Buddhist -Muslim dialogues he initiated in 20 have been conducted in ten countries, including the UNESCO Paris and UN in New York Father Leonel Narvaez is a Catholic missionary who initially worked with nomadic tribes in Eastern Africa and currently works in the forest of the South Amazon area of Colombia. In 2000, he established the Schools of Forgiveness and Reconciliation. He was a key figure in the Goldin Institute's 2007 global gathering on the topic of reintegration of former child soldiers Healing the Earth: Buddhist and Hindu Theological Perspectives Rajendra Damodara Yenkannamoole Venerable Miao You Dr Tong Yun Kai Dr TV Muralivallabhan Room 220 Lecture I-Kuan Tao: Healing the Earth with Care and Concern, Sharing Wisdom in the Search of Inner Peace Jeng Chen Room 217 Lecture It is the ideal of I-Kuan Tao that when all peoples and nations live as one family on the five continents, viewing each other with respect and equality, there will be both in ner peace in individuals and world peace among nations. To make this ideal into a reality. I-Kuan Tao has extended substantial assistance to relieve human suffering caused by natural catastrophes such as Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans; the tsunami in Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka; the cyclone in Myanmar; and the earthquake in Sichuan Province, China. In his presentation, Dr Chen In this program, practitioners of both Buddhist and Hindu theological traditions will share their teachings about healing the Earth. The first part of this program will explore how meditation and vegetarianism can heal our relationships with each other and reduce our impact on the environment.
