________________ lived in urban areas, whereas only 1,009,347 lived in rural areas. About 64% of the Jains lived in cities and towns in 1981. This figure increased to about 71% in the 1991 census and to about 75% in the 2001 census. Thus today Jains are the most urbanized religious community in India.
