________________ The Concept Of 'Hirsā’ 19 (6) Classification of Himsa : Himsā has been classified into 2 categories as, a) Arambhaja or Arambhi Himsä, i. e., Occupational Injury, and b) Anārambhaja or Anārambhi or Saṁkalpi Himsā, i.e., Nonoccupational or Intentional Injury. In this connection Acharya Amitagati, the famous Jaina saint and author, in this authoritative treatise entitled "Sravakåchāra” has given the two major kinds of Hims, and their application in actual practice by the people in following terms हिंसा द्वेधाप्रोक्तारंभानारंभजत्वतो दक्ष्यैः। TEATTTT arquitetsfo ard ai || 6/6 गृहवाससेवनरतो मंदकषाय: प्रवर्तितारंभः । 3TRUHİ FELHI grallat a feri Parent 11 6/7 that is, “Hissă has, by the learned, been said to be of two kinds, Arambhaja, arising from occupations, and Anärambhaja, not due to any occupation. He who has renounced the life of householder, certainly avoids both kinds of Himsa. One with mild passion, while living the life of a householder, cannot of course avoid Arambhaja Hiñsā when performing various occupations." It means that the Himsä or injury involved in the actual execution or conduct of occupations is known as the Arambhi Himsä and that the Himsā not inherent or unrelated to occupations but committed with the objective of fulfilling certain desires is termed as Anārambhi or Sanikalpi Hinisā, i.e., intentional injury. Hunting, offering animal sacrifices, killing for food, amusement or decoration are illustrations of Anārambhi or Sarıkalpi Hirsā and it can be avoided by every thinking person without any difficulty or harm to himself. Again, the Ārambhi Hinisā is further sub-divided into the three types, viz. (a) Udyami Hirisā, i.e., industrial injury, (b) Grhārambhi Hirsā, i.e., domestic injury, and (c) Virodhi Himsā, i.e., defensive injury. (a) Udyami Hirsā is injory which is unavoidably committted in the exercise of one's profession.
