Accordingly, when we have seen that nothing can be created out of nothing, we shall then have a clearer picture of the path ahead, the problem of how things are created and occasioned with the aid of the gods. There is a variant reading:āvare for jāņayā / jāņagā. Commentators take this to mean another sect of Buddhists, but the doctrine is more akin to materialism than Buddhism. Sīlāňka glosses on āvare, but also refers to the reading jāņagā and explains it as follows: tatrāpyayam artho jānakā' jñānino vayam kiletyabhimānāgnidagdhāh santa evam āhuriti
