of the materialist and the ludicrous stand of the idealists. Indeed, this effort, on the part of the Jainas, to create harmony among the conflicting claims of philosophers, by introducing the doctrine of anekāntavāda, is a natural consequence of their attitude towards life aiming to foster world-brotherhood.
