They have a different characteristic due to many divisions and sub-divisions-Svetambara? and Digambara,Upakesagaccha, Nirgranthagaccha, 10 Kautikagaccha, 11 Candragaccha,12 Vanavasigaccha,13 Vatagacchal4 and Tapagaccha,15 Kharataragaccha, 16 etc., 84 gacchas,17 upto Sthanakvasins18 and Terapanthins,19, etc. of the Svetambara group; Mulasangha, 20 Devagana, 21 Senagana, 22 Nandigana, 23 etc., Kasthasangha, 24 etc. upto Taranapanthins, 25 Terapanthins, 26 Gumanapanthins, 27 Bisapanthins28 and Tolapanthins29 etc. Besides they are more consei vative and caste-ridden today, whereas Mahavira was too liberal even to admit a Candala named 20 Sthanakvasi and Terapanthi sects, etc. are strikingly, different from the original North Indian orthodox Jaina Sangha of Mahavira in some respects, although they profess and follow his path of religion. ?
