It's remarkable that a huge controversy in the financial business is the notion of a fiduciary standard. Most large brokerage houses and insurance companies are vehemently opposed to the application of a fiduciary standard to their practices. The application of the fiduciary standard is the simple ethical and legal notion that a person works in the best interest of their client, and not some other entity. A fiduciary works for their client, so the answer to the question 'who do you work for?' is 'I work for you. We feel that transparency, honesty and integrity are the key ingredient of a sound advisor. A simple concept: do the right thing, all of the time.
