Istopadeśa - The Golden Discourse
shifts from enjoyment of worldly objects to enjoyment of the true Self. This transition can take place only when we renounce our desires since these keep us entangled in delusion. Desires, which truly are confessions of our deficiencies, cause us to work for those objects which hinder our freedom and, therefore, keep us away from real happiness. If we do not renounce our worldly attachments ourselves, Nature will compel us to do so, sooner or later, causing us terrible anguish. He only is wise who, at an appropriate stage in life, uses his freedom and power to cheerfully detach himself from the worldly objects of attachment and enjoyment, and seek blessedness that appertains to the true Self.
