In 1972 Raniero Gnoli published a complete translation of Abhinavagupta's Tantraloka in the series Classici delle religioni (cf. IIJ 18, pp. 298-300). The present volume contains translations of Mahāyāna and Vajrayāna texts. The title Buddhist Sanskrit Texts refers to the fact that all texts translated in this volume were originally written in Sanskrit, although, apart from a few quotations, the Sanskrit texts of the Śūramgamasamadhisútra and the Vimalakirtinirdeśasūtra have not been preserved. Other texts translated by Gnoli are the Pratityasamutpadasutra, the Salistambasūtra, the Vajracchedikā, the Prasannapada (Chapter 24), the Prajñaparamitāpiņdartha, the Bodhicaryavatāra, the Jatakamala (chapters 14, 24, 28, 30 and 31), the Satapancasatka, the Prajñāpāramitāstotra, the Guhyasamājatantra (Chapters 1, 2 and 5), and the Tattvajñānasamsiddhi. In his translations of the Süramgama samadhisūtra and the Vimalakirtinirdesasūtra, Gnoli closely follows Lamotte's translations without however referring to reviews in which some of the latter's renderings have been queried. Gnoli has also included in this volume a rendering of Nagarjuna's Mūlamadhyamakakarikās which he had already published in 1961 together with translations of the Vigrahavyāvartani and the Four Hymns
