________________ અર્વાચીન ગુજરાતી કવિતામાં મૃત્યુનું નિરૂપણ * 18 કહે છે, "My love is not a hunger of the heart. My love is not a craving of the flesh. It came to me from God, to God returns" 15 (Savitri). | મૃત્યુ આ પ્રેમનું પારખું લેવાનો પ્રયત્ન અવશ્ય કરે છે. પોતાના વર્ચસ્વને સ્થાપવા આકાશપાતાળ એક કરે છે. "Man has no other help but only Death. He comes to me at his end for rest and peace" 18 (Savitri). Se s9 - "I am the Immobile in which all things move. I am the nude, inane in which they cease. I have no body, and no tongue to speak, I commune not with human eye and ear, only thy thought gave a figure to my void". 17 (Savitri). ' પણ મૃત્યુ સાવિત્રીને પ્રભાવિત કરી શકતું નથી. એ કહે છે, "O, Death, I have triumphed over thee within" 18 (Savitri). . સાવિત્રી મૃત્યુના નિયમ કરતાં પણ પોતાની ઇચ્છાશક્તિને વધુ પ્રબળ ગણાવે છે. ને એનો પ્રેમ તો વળી સૌથી વિશેષ સામર્થ્યવાન છે. "My love is stronger than the bonds of Fate. Our love is the heavenly seal of the supreme. I guard that seal against thy rending hands. Love must not cease to live upon the earth. For love is the bright link twixt earth and heaven. Love is the far Transcendent's angel here, Love is man's lien on the Absolute" 19 (Savitri). હજુય મૃત્યુ પર આની કોઈ અસર થતી નથી. સત્યવાન અને સાવિત્રી પાસે જઈ ઊભું રહેલું મૃત્યુ કહે છે, "For thou must die, to thyself, to reach God's height. I, Death am the gate of immortality" 20 (Savitri). મૃત્યુના એ ભવ્ય ઓળાને સાવિત્રીએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો. સાવિત્રીએ જેવું બોલવાનું શરૂ કર્યું, કે તરત એનું મયત્વ અદશ્ય થવા લાગ્યું. એનામાં રહેલું દિવ્યત્વ એની આંખમાં ચમકવા લાગ્યું. એના ચહેરા પર જાણે સ્વર્ગના સ્વપ્નનો પ્રકાશ રેલાવા લાગ્યો. "O Death, if thou couldst touch the Truth supreme. Thou wouldst grow suddenly wise and cease to be" 21 (Savitri). સાવિત્રીના દિવ્યત્વભર્યા પ્રેમબળે અંતે મૃત્યુ પ્રભાવિત થાય છે. સાવિત્રી એને દેહમાં છુપાયેલું દિવ્યત્વ લાગે છે. "Who then at thou hiding in human guise ? Thy voice carries the sound of infinity. Knowledge is with thee, Truth speaks through thy words. The light of things beyound shines in thy eyes. But where is thy strength to conquer Time and Death" 2 (Savitri). - સાવિત્રીની અંદર જો દિવ્ય માતાજી બિરાજમાન હોય તો મૃત્યુ એમનાં દર્શન કરવા ઉત્સુક બને છે. "Let deathless eyes look into the eyes of Death. And love and joy overtake fleeting Time" 23 (Savitri). સાવિત્રી મૃત્યુ સામે જોઈ રહે છે. નીરવ મૌનમાં સંપૂર્ણ શાશ્વતરૂપ જાણે પ્રેમનું. જગતનો અંધકાર જાણે સ્વર્ગ પ્રકાશમાં ફેરવાઈ જાય છે. કોઈ દિવ્ય રૂપાંતર જણાય છે એના ચહેરા પર, દૈવી તેજ પ્રસરે છે એના મુખ પર. સમગ્ર શરીર સુવર્ણરંગે ચમકીલું બને P.P.
