________________ The Munishri also exposes the hollowness and futility of our scientific progress and civilization. In the pursuit of scientific knowledge man has lost sight of his essential human nature and the power of soul. “Man has explored the sky, discovered the secrets of the earth and fathomed the depth of oceans. He has discoverd the hidden power in the atom and invented nuclear weapons on the basis of this knowledge. But unfortunately mın has not yet succeeded in discovering and understanding his own self or his fellow - men with whom he constantly lives.” Religion is meant to foster goodwill, understanding, tolerance, love and sympathy between man and man. But unfortunately, religion as preached and practised by professional and fanatic priests and clergymen has driven mankind to the extreme contrary end. No other single factor in the history of the human race has done more danige to man thin religious fanaticism. What is needed today is to discover a new kind of religion, a new kind of temple and a new kind of mosque. This new temple, this new mosque exists within man's own soul. Let the priests and adorers throw open the temples and mosques of their own soul. Let Allah or God enter the heart of min and show the path of liberation, enlightenment and salvation. With this the Munishri advocates the need of the religion of humanity : “When the 'self' of min is so expanded as to embrace the whole of the universe, when the love of *self' assumes the proportions of the love of the universe, when mia comes to see his 'self' in everything and when nothing that exists in the universe is outside man's own *self', when man finds his own good in the good of all, ( ix ) Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
