From that time the Institute has collected and purchased many Mss. from different sources to enrich its collection and published important books in the different series of the Institute. In the year 1959 the Institute received a very rich and huge gift of about 6500 Jaina and other manuscripts from Yatishri Hemachandraji of Baroda. Muniji donated the collection of Pujya Jainacharya Shri Nayachandrasuri and Pujya Maharaja Shri Svarupachandraji Smāraka Jñāna Bhandāra with the condition that the name plate is to be affixed to the cabinets where these manuscripts are stored. A special exhibition was arranged and some of the Mss. were displayed at that time when these manuscripts were received by the Institute. The credit goes to late Prof. B. J. Sandesara, the then Director and late Dr. U. P. Shah, the then Dy. Director and General Editor of the Ramayana Deptt. of the Institute who had taken keen interest in collecting the important Mss. and collections of notable scholars of Baroda viz. Patwardhan Shastri's collection, L. B. Shastri's collection, Prof. G. H. Bhatt's collection, Mahajan's collection, J. J. Modi's collection, etc. Dr. U. P. Shah also tried to collect Palm-leaf Mss. from Kerala and Southern region, especially of the Rāmāyaṇa Mss. by deputing Mr. M. R. Nambiar, Research Officer, for that purpose. Some important Mss. were purchased to enhance the collection. Our collection has variety of subjects. The writing materials and rare samples of writing, some other materials such as Yantras, Pațas and scrolls, wooden boxes, etc. were also added to the collection.
Recently with the efforts of Prof. R. I. Nanavati, a collection of great Grammarian late Pt. Manishankar Upadhyaya of Baroda was received as gift to our Institute.
As stated above in the two Vols. of our catalogue 14000 Mss. were included. Now in the present Vol. other 6000 (i.e. 14,001 to 20,000) Mss. are listed. As most of the Jaina Mss. of Yatishri Hemachandraji's collection were added in the collection during this period, naturally in this Vol. large numbers of these Mss. have occupied the pages of the catalogue. We have followed the same pattern of the subjectwise classification of the Mss. as per our two Vols. of the catalogue already published. Hence the Mss. are classified from
